'Waikare-Moana with a tramp through Tuhoe Land' is Elsdon Best's 1897 first hand account of his tramping through the stunning forests that later became a national park, and since 2014 has been granted a world first legal personhood under New Zealand law, returning it to the Tūhoe, and recognizing their role as its guardians.
This rare and important book, is a first edition published by direction of the Minister of Lands. It features a colour frontis map and a stunning fold out rear, A3 sized photo lithograph map, of the lake and its catchment.
VG condition for its considerable age, bound in full limp red leather with gilt titles, edge wear and short splits at hinges, boards intact, sound binding, minor tear to fold out map. 66pp. 11 plates. 143mmx215mm
