This stunning looking historic reference is a report to the Surveyor-General by his assistant who was instructed on June 10th 1886, by the then Minister of Native Affairs and Minister of Defence, to travel immediately to the disaster area to observe and report on the eruption and its after effects. The result is an extraordinary piece of research and field observation, commenced on June 11th, with detailed maps and stunning accurate drawings of the catastrophic impacts.
This copy is in VG+ condition for its age. Well loved, half leather binding and stunning blue covers, minor foxing. Plates and maps, some fold out and colour. Very tidy overall given its vintage.
